The top ranked teams have not been tested so far in the early stages of the college football season, but starting Thursday night in Maryland, the season kicks into a critical point for some of the top ranked teams in the land.

West Virginia received a scare in the first half against Marshall last week, but they eventually regrouped and ran away with the football game. This week, the Mountaineers travel to face Maryland, an unranked team, but one that could prove a tough foe for one of the top five teams in the country.

On Saturday, there are a number of top twenty five match ups. The biggest could be in Lincoln, Nebraska, where the Cornhuskers are ready to return to prominence, and that would happen instantly if #14 Nebraska could pull the upset over #1 ranked USC. The game will be the first in what looks like a bunch of tough games for the Trojans.

In the biggest rivalry game of the week between two ranked teams, that honor will go to the Tennessee Volunteers and Florida Gators. These are two teams that do not care for one another, and enjoy knocking each other out of the national title picture every year.

The Vols will have to do the spoiling this year as they already have a loss on their record, they do, however, still come into The Swamp ranked #22. The Gators are #5 in the latest polls.

The only other game featuring two ranked teams comes from the ACC, where #21 Boston College travels to Georgia Tech to take on the Yellow Jackets. The Eagles have already defeated defending ACC champs Wake Forrest in their first game of the year. Now they look to defeat another of the favored teams to win the ACC this season.

The college season is now in full swing, and starting this week, teams will begin their quest toward conference and national championships.
